Trade-cooperation of SECO in Ghana: Allanblackia project

Ghana

The project “Allanblackia; standard setting and sustainable supply chain management” aims at improving the legal certainty, the sustainability of harvesting, the quality of processing, and the enhancing of exports of Allanblackia. Allanblackia oil, made out of the Allanblackia seeds, is a new commodity with the ability of substituting palm oil for some applications. The projects concentrates on building the capacity of local businesses and communities that are willing to participate in the development of Allanblackia oil as an export commodity. Best-practice guidelines for the wild harvest and small-scale production of Allanblackia that will put in place basic safeguards needed to prevent negative social and environmental impacts are developed and will be pilot tested. The project is based on a partnership among different stakeholders, namely IUCN (main partner), Technoserve (focus on quality management), Unilever/TOPP (food producer and exporter) and local partners (FORIG, ICA).
